Bio
I am Rens Jan van der Linden, a student in the field of Aerospace Engineering with a solid foundation in AI and Embedded systems. I obtained my bachelor in electrical engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology and I am currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering at Delft University of Technology
Current Role
Currently, I serve as a thesis intern at Ubotica Technologies, where I am performing research into the domain gap occurring onboard of satellites due to mismatches between data encountered and the data used in training. This can lead to a significant drop in performance which I want to quantify. Afterwards the goal is to adapt the model to limit the performance drop.
Areas of Expertise
My expertise lies in several key areas of Earth Observation, including Deep learning and Embedded Systems.
Vision for the Future
Onboard AI is moving from proof of concepts to operational systems that deliver real insights and commercial uses. These systems have to be robust and prove insights that can be trusted. Otherwise it would not be possible to act on these insights.
My project fit’s in with this trend. By measuring the domain gap present it allows systems to detect when accuracy might drop and by how much. Secondly domain adaptation opens up the possibility to deploy models faster on new satellites without requiring data from the new platform or new observation areas, reducing the time until they become operational.
