Bio
I am Peter Jack Naylor, a post-doctoral research fellow at ESA Φ-lab working under Giuseppe Borghi on AI for Earth Observation (AI4EO). My research focuses on Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) applied to Earth Observation, covering ocean topography, ice sheet monitoring, cultural heritage, hydrology, and river bed estimation. I hold a PhD in bioinformatics from Mines Paristech, Institut Curie and INSERM (2015–2019), where I specialised in computer vision and machine learning for cancer tissue analysis, and a statistical engineering diploma from ENSAE ParisTech with a major in data science and statistical learning. Prior to joining
ESA, I was a post-doctoral researcher at RIKEN AIP in Japan (2021–2023), working on high- dimensional statistical modelling, bioimaging, and 3D EM data. I also served as a data engineer
at the French Ministry of Health during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020–2021). At ESA Φ-lab, I serve as technical officer and expert for multiple activities with a cumulated value exceeding 1.5 M€, and I have supervised over 13 visiting researchers and PhD students from European and international institutions on remote sensing and machine learning projects.
