Bio
Giulia Sturlese is a Ph.D. student in Sustainable Development and Climate Change at the University School for Advanced Studies IUSS Pavia. She holds a Master’s degree in Physics from the University of Pavia, where she completed her thesis on renewable energies in Europe.
Current Role
She is currently conducting research on aerosol atmospheric rivers — narrow, elongated regions in the atmosphere that transport large concentrations of aerosols. At ESA Φ-lab, she applies machine learning methods to environmental datasets to predict when and where these phenomena occur, contributing to a deeper understanding of aerosol transport and its implications for Earth system science.
Areas of Expertise
Giulia’s expertise lies in atmospheric science and data analysis. Her work focuses on applying data-driven methods to monitor and model atmospheric processes, supporting ESA Φ-lab’s Collaborative Innovation Network.
Vision for the Future
Giulia is motivated by a vision of improving the detection and prediction of aerosol transport phenomena, ultimately enhancing climate and air-quality forecasting to strengthen societal resilience to climate change.
