Bio
I am Filippo Gregori, a researcher specializing in Earth Observation and environmental monitoring with a focus on karst ecosystem dynamics. My academic journey spans multiple institutions, where I am pursuing my PhD (39th Cycle, 2024/2025) under the supervision of Prof. Marco Dubbini, Dr. Michaela De Giglio, and Prof.ssa Nataša Ravbar.
Current Role
Currently, I serve as an ESA PhD Fellow in Earth Observation, where I investigate desertification processes in Mediterranean karst environments using advanced Bayesian statistical approaches. My research integrates Klaus Hasselmann's stochastic paradigm with remote sensing techniques to understand how small environmental perturbations accumulate over time to drive ecosystem transitions.
Areas of Expertise
My expertise lies in several key areas of environmental remote sensing, including probabilistic modeling of ecosystem dynamics, Bayesian Hidden Markov Models for temporal analysis, and multi-temporal satellite data processing. These specializations enable me to develop approaches for monitoring environmental degradation in vulnerable karst landscapes, which can significantly benefit ESA Φ-lab CIN by advancing methodologies for climate risk assessment and early warning systems in Mediterranean ecosystems.
Vision for the Future
Driven by a vision of a future where stochastic environmental modeling can provide early warning systems for ecosystem collapse, I am committed to developing robust, uncertainty-aware monitoring systems that can inform climate adaptation strategies for vulnerable Mediterranean landscapes.
