Bio
I am Federico Mattei, a professional in the field of Remote Sensing with a solid foundation in Ecology and Natural Science. My professional journey began at La Sapienza University, where I earned my bachelor's degree in Natural Science and my master's degree in Ecobiology after 9-month traineeship at the National Council of Research. With my skills, I have contributed to the National Council of Research for 1 impactful year, focusing on the Ecosystem Services spatial distribution analysis and trade-offs in the Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve, Vietnam.
Current Role
Currently, I serve as a PhD Student at IUSS Pavia, where I use remote sensing techniques and Artificial Intelligence to describe and monitor rapidly shifting landscapes in Southeast Asia. At IUSS Pavia, I am dedicated to finding a method to describe the ecosystem services spatial distribution and their trade-off by integrating remote sensing techniques, field data and artificial intelligence techniques.
Areas of Expertise
My expertise lies in several key areas of Remote Sensing, including Satellite data analysis, Ecology, Natural Science and Foundation Models. These specialisations enable me to describe the ecosystem services spatial distribution in the Unesco Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve and their trade off, which can significantly benefit ESA Φ-lab CIN by defining better a new modality for Geospatial Foundation Models, related to the retrieval of Essential Climate Variables such as the Leaf Area Index.
Vision for the Future
Driven by a vision of a future where technology and artificial intelligence applications will be every day more present in our life, I am committed to find the best way to apply this powerful method for preserving the world ecosystems and the natural cycles which characterise them in order to support a dignified and equal life for all the people in the Earth.
