Bio
Emanuel is an Erasmus Master’s student in the Copernicus Digital Earth and Geodata Science programme, a joint initiative between Paris-Lodron University of Salzburg and the University of South Brittany. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering and has experience working at the intersection of water and technology, delivering data-driven water-balance solutions for companies. His current interests focus on applying AI to Earth Observation to support nature-based solutions. He has contributed to Remote Sensing projects including Object-Based Image Analysis libraries, computer vision developments, and downstream analysis of Sentinel-2 imagery. Alongside his technical work, he has a passion for jazz guitar, which he has studied for several years.
Current Role
Emanuel is a Φ-Lab Visiting Researcher under the Destination Earth (DestinE) initiative, where he explores how DestinE services can support geospatial innovation. His work focuses on developing AI applications for execution within DestinE cloud environments and leveraging the platform’s integrated ecosystem. His activities include Earth Observation point-cloud generation, a pilot study on AI-based atmospheric correction of Sentinel-2 imagery, and the development of an end-to-end AI pipeline for multi-class land-use classification.
Areas of Expertise
His expertise lies in key areas of Remote Sensing, including Earth Observation and climate-data analysis. These specialisations have led him to pursue AI and machine-learning methods for EO tasks and analysis. His background enables him to develop work as an end-user on the DestinE platform and explore its potential for Digital Twins of the Earth.
Vision for the Future
Emanuel is driven by a vision to bridge Earth Observation and AI to support nature-based solutions and strengthen community resilience. He is committed to advancing in the EO4AI field and developing impactful, data-driven tools that enable informed decision-making for environmental management.
