Bio
I am Antonio Elia Pascarella, an Earth Observation Data Scientist with a strong foundation in Artificial Intelligence and environmental science. My academic journey began at the University of Naples Federico II, where I earned my PhD focusing on AI applications for sustainable development. I have always been passionate about leveraging data and technology to better understand and protect our planet.
Current Role
Currently, I serve as an Earth Observation Data Scientist at Latitudo 40, where I apply machine learning and deep learning techniques to satellite imagery. At Latitudo 40, I focus on creating scalable AI solutions to monitor environmental dynamics and support energy-related decision-making. My work spans from explainable AI analysis of satellite images to the integration of Large Vision-Language Models (VLMs) that enable intuitive interaction with geospatial data.
Areas of Expertise
My expertise lies in several key areas of Earth Observation and Artificial Intelligence, including satellite image analysis, deep learning for environmental monitoring, and AI applications in the energy sector. These specialisations allow me to extract actionable insights from complex geospatial datasets, contributing to smarter, more sustainable solutions. My experience directly aligns with ESA Φ-lab CIN’s mission to innovate in EO and AI, especially in the context of climate change, energy transition, and Earth system understanding.
Vision for the Future
Driven by a vision of a more sustainable and transparent planet, I am committed to advancing the role of AI in Earth Observation. I aim to develop intelligent systems that not only detect and predict environmental changes but also make their outputs accessible and explainable to a wide range of stakeholders—from scientists to policymakers. I believe that bridging the gap between AI and satellite data will be key to unlocking impactful solutions for our most pressing global challenges.
